A Family Adventure in Cooper Landing, Alaska: Whale Watching, Fishing, and Hiking with Gwin's Lodge

The Johnson family had been dreaming of a trip to Alaska for years, and they finally made it happen with a three-day adventure in Cooper Landing. They stayed at Gwin's Lodge, where they were welcomed by the friendly staff and the rustic charm of the lodge.

Day One - Whale Watching in Kenai Fjords National Park

The Johnsons were thrilled when the tackle shop manager, Rob, booked them a whale-watching tour in Kenai Fjords National Park for their first day. They embarked on a boat tour with a knowledgeable guide and saw humpback whales breaching in the distance, playful sea otters, and even a pod of orcas. The highlight of the tour was seeing a majestic bald eagle soaring overhead.

Day Two - Fishing with Gwin's Lodge Guide Scott

The Johnsons were eager to experience the thrill of fishing in the Kenai River, and they were paired with Gwin's Lodge guide Scott. He showed them the best fishing spots and shared his tips on how to catch the big one. The family had a blast reeling in sockeye salmon and even landed a few rainbow trout. Scott's expertise and enthusiasm for fishing made the experience even more memorable.

Day Three - Hiking to Russian River Falls

On their final day, the Johnsons decided to explore the beauty of Cooper Landing on a hike to Russian River Falls. The trail was surrounded by stunning views of the Russian River and the Chugach Mountains. They were lucky to spot a moose and her calf grazing in the distance. When they reached the waterfall, they were amazed by its beauty and the sight of salmon flying high in the air to jump over the rushing water. It was a perfect end to their Alaska adventure.

Eating at Gwin's Lodge

Throughout their trip, the Johnsons enjoyed eating at Gwin's Lodge. The salmon chowder was a favorite, as was the Kenai Blue Burger, made with 100% Angus beef and topped with blue cheese and fried onions. They loved the warm and friendly atmosphere of the restaurant and the lodge, and felt at home in the cozy cabins.

In conclusion, the Johnsons' three-day trip to Cooper Landing, Alaska, was an unforgettable adventure. From whale watching to fishing and hiking, they experienced the best that this beautiful part of Alaska has to offer. With the help of Gwin's Lodge and their friendly staff, they had an incredible trip and created memories that will last a lifetime.
